NANDO’S Fiji celebrated its first anniversary since acquired by its new owners yesterday with a treat for residents of Samabula Elderly Citizens Home.
The residents were treated to a hearty lunch at the restaurant in Suva where a resident also celebrated her 101 birthday.
Benina Cirivesi, who is affectionately known as Bu Benina, celebrated her 101 birthday with fellow residents and thanked the restaurant staff members and managing director and owner Rajesh Patel and his wife Nilangi Patel for the kind thought.
She said she was thankful that God allowed her to live for so long and share her joy with her friends and family.
Mr Patel said the new owners had gone through a lot of struggles to make sure the restaurant was on par with the international franchise from Australia.
He said they decided to celebrate their special day with the residents from the home because it was part of their social and corporate responsibility.
“We are fortunate that Bu Benina who turned 101 today was part of the celebrations. They can’t afford to be in restaurants every day or eat out so we felt that this would be a fitting treat for them.”
Fiji Pensioners Association president Hari Raj Naicker said he was delighted to have Nando’s management invite the residents to the restaurant.
Mr Naicker said he would like to see other restaurant operators take the initiative and treat the unfortunate in the same manner.
The residents also received blankets, warm shoes and other items as a token of appreciation from the restaurant management and staff members.
