THE world’s most decorated weightlifting athlete now the USA weightlifting coach Pyrros Dimos adapts her athletes to focus on Olympics qualifications next year.

The three time Olympics gold medalist said his focus for his young team is to get qualified to the Olympics since the IWF Junior World Championship counts as an Olympics qualifying round as well.

“I’m happy for my athletes and one of them did well in her category and she is only 20 years old and she won gold medal in all lifts and also qualified to the Olympics,” said Dimos.

“My aim for these athletes is to get the green light to participate in the Olympics and they’ve been improving so far in their divisions.

We may win some medals but the bigger picture is to be part of the Olympic Games in Japan next year. Jewel Stephanie Schrijver of the USA won gold in the Women’s 76kg category and she scooped all gold medals in the snatch, clean and jerk and total winning the USA women’s team first gold medal.

Meanwhile Dimos acknowledged Weightlifting Fiji and their effort in organizing a world stage event that his athletes enjoyed every bit of their stay.

“We really enjoyed ourselves in Fiji and the organizers did a good job and the people of Fiji are so friendly and we look forward to visit Fiji again in the future,” Dimos said.
