Court sets man free

A MAN walked out of the High Court in Suva free after he was acquitted of one count of rape.

He was charged with the alleged rape of a 25-year-old woman and was standing trial last week.

The alleged incident took place in Wainibuka, Tailevu earlier this year.

Yesterday, High Court judge Justice Riyaz Hamza concurred with the unanimous not guilty opinion of the three trial assessors.

The judge said the prosecution failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.

While delivering his judgment, Justice Hamza instructed the accused not to appear in court again and to maintain a good behaviour. Justice Hamza advised the accused to live a crime-free lifestyle.
