MEMBERS of the Cakaudrove Provincial Council have agreed to take the lead role in constructing the provincial office that was damaged by fire early this year.

This issue was discussed at yesterday’s council meetings held in Somosomo Village on Taveuni.

While some members suggested that Government rebuild the office, others suggested otherwise asking members of the council to shoulder this task.

Vuna district rep Laisiasa Tuimouta told the meeting that as people of Cakaudrove, it was only fair to shoulder the task.

“Let’s start it and if we need Government’s help, then we can ask them for assistance,” he said.

“Otherwise, let’s do something because the Roko Tui Cakaudrove and his team have had to work and squeeze into small temporary offices provided for them.

“It’s fair for us to rebuild our provincial office because it is ours and we will use it.”

Council chairman Ratu Jekesoni Yavalanavanua thanked the council members for their positive attitude. Such attitude, he said, was imperative as it empowered communities.

He also said that as council chairman, he would continue to liaise with Government regarding development issues, including this project.
