“FIJIAN hearts are breaking for our brothers and sisters in New Zealand.”

These were the words of Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama following the deadly shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, earlier today.

In a post on his official Facebook account, Mr Bainimarama said the Fijian people stood with our Pacific family in this time of suffering and sadness.

“Today, as news of a mass shooting at mosques in Christchurch unfolds, Fijian hearts are breaking for our brothers and sisters in New Zealand — a place where an atrocity of this nature is shocking almost beyond comprehension,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“We condemn all forms of hatred and terror,” he said.

In a briefing this evening, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed that 40 people have been confirmed dead and a further 20 people have been seriously injured.
