THE Fiji National University needs to complete its Labasa campus on time, Education Minister Rosy Akbar emphasised this during her meeting with FNU’s vice-chancellor Prof Nigel Healey and FNU’s senior management yesterday.
“We want students to stay and study in the North and obviously students from this year would be planning according to the courses that will be offered from semester 1, 2020 by the university for enrolment — so that should be the vision of the university,” she said.
“It is encouraging to note that student numbers are going up.”
Prof Healey assured Ms Akbar that the multimillion dollar campus would open for classes next year.
“The campus will not only attract students from Vanua Levu, but students from surrounding islands like Taveuni and so we are looking at building residential accommodation there in time,” he said.
“Clearly for us, Labasa is the most important project.”
Meanwhile, the minister is also expected to visit other FNU campuses later in the year.
