THE women of Cakaudrove are willing to work with the Ministry for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation in promoting women’s economic empowerment.

Soqosoqo Vakamarama of Cakaudrove president Adi Kavu stressed this during Minister Mereseini Vuniwaqa’s visit to the women’s groups on Taveuni Island during her official tour of the Northern Division this week.

Adi Kavu also took the opportunity to thank Mrs Vuniwaqa for visiting and encouraging them.

Mrs Vuniwaqa had visited the women’s groups of Somosomo, Lamini, Duavata, and Waiyevo on her first day of visit and was accompanied by her permanent secretary Jennifer Poole, ministry staff and staff of the provincial office.

According to Mrs Vuniwaqa, the tour is also an opportunity for her and the team to discuss ways in which the ministry, the women’s groups and the communities could work together to effectively empower women in thoseĀ  areas by creating opportunities, one of which was by enabling them to access government services and other stakeholders for the betterment of their quality of life.

She acknowledged the work that has been carried out by the women, which has improved their lives and their contributions towards their own families and communities.

The visit was also a chance for her to meet and discuss their needs with the women’s groups, and also ways in which the ministry could assist them further.

While speaking to the communities, Mrs Vuniwaqa said “when we empower women and help them thrive, we help their families and communities thrive”.

The ministerial tour ends tomorrow.
