Students of Navakasiga District School no longer have to worry about sitting in old classrooms as Government yesterday handed them a new $50,000 block.

The school in Bua has a roll of 100 students from the villages of Nasau, Naviqiri and Yaqaga maritime area.

Parents said the building was a blessing from above.

Samisoni Laukoto said parents used to worry about their children sitting in an old room.

School head Samuel Maui described the new block as a great achievement in his career as he heads towards retirement.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama told parents that we were living in tough times.

“We have prioritised the education of Fijians of all ages through the free education grant, free bus fares and free textbooks,” he said.

“We are the first Government to provide free and compulsory education for every child. You can be guaranteed that this will continue to happen with an increase of almost $43 million for the Ministry of Education.”
