Ba staged a late rally to down defending champions Labasa 4-2 in the final of the Digicel Women’s Inter District Championship (IDC) at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

The two teams were locked 1-all after 90 minutes, forcing the match into extra time.

Vanisha Kumar scored for Labasa in the 51st minute while Lavenia Nairogo equalised for Ba in the 88th minute.

The extra time proved to be interesting as the Northerners took the lead through star striker Sofi Diyalowai in the 91st minute.

Narieta Leba brought Ba back into the game in the 98th minute with her goal while Susila Kuladina and Evivi Buka added two more late goals for the Women in Black to clinch victory.

Ba team captain Luisa Cagi Tamanitoakula said her girls renewed their form after halftime.

“It was scoreless at the break and then even after 90 minutes,” the national rep said.

“Hats off to the young girls especially after we had a player down in the second spell.

“We knew that Labasa was laced with many good players. For our district team I want to thank all the hardworking officials.

“They gave these young girls who are from primary school and high school the opportunity to play at this level.

“This was the IDC and at the end of the day there could only be one winner.

“I want to congratulate the Labasa team for reaching the final but then it was a good win for us.”

Ba walked away $4000 richer after winning the title while Labasa got $1500.
