THE Australian Women’s Sevens team will look to use next week’s Oceania 7s championship as a platform to prepare for the remainder of the HSBC World Sevens Series.

Australian Rugby Union Women’s manager Dale Roberson said they had a good start despite the fifth-place finish at the USA 7s last month.

“The Aussie Women’s Sevens team only lost one game in round one of the series, falling to the USA in the Quarter Finals leaving Australia to finish in fifth,” Roberson said.

“The team preparation has been going well after a tough pre-season.”

Roberson said the off-season had seen some players get surgery in preparation for a big two years ahead.

He said playing in the Oceania 7s was an important factor to prepare from for the HSBC World Sevens Series.

“The Oceania Sevens Championship has become an important part of Australia’s preparation for the HSBC Sevens World Series.

“It is an elite tournament, with great opposition to play from all over the region.”

Australia heads pool A which includes Samoa, PNG and Nauru.
