AUSTRALIAN Minister for Foreign Affairs and Women Marise Payne visited the House of Sarah at Desvouex Road in Suva this morning.

The organisation is a faith-based organisation of the Anglican Church in Fiji aimed to assist women who are victims of abuse and domestic violence.

In her address, Ms Payne thanked the organisation for their work and support towards her visit.

“This is my visit outside of Australia after being sworn in two weeks ago and it shows the closeness of our relationship and friendship,” she said.

Ms Payne was accompanied by the Australia High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes, and senior officials from the Australian government.

House of Sarah coordinator Luseani Leba said the visit gave her an opportunity to discuss issues affecting both Fiji and Australia.

Ms Leba said she was honoured to meet the visiting Australian minister.

“Its really encouraging to see women holding such position in power. This visit indicates her support on the need to raise more awareness on violence against women and children in Fiji,” she said.
