THE Ashiyana restaurant has been operating in the Capital City since 1988 and this year, they open a new and reinvented establishment at the historic Heritage Old Town Hall building.
Owner and restaurateur Dhruv Morris said they had plans to have space upstairs for their extended eatery but it took them a long time because of the heritage status of the building.
According to Mr Morris, because it is a heritage building, there are limitations to what one can do to the building.
“For everything we do, we have to take approval from the council, the council goes to the Heritage Association, and they get approval and then from there we are okay. So it took a long process,” Mr Morris said.
Last night, members of the media were invited for a soft launch and special tasting event of some of their dishes.
Mr Morris said with the extended space, they would have more patrons, which would require them to continue to come up with an innovative menu.
Ashiyanas will officially open their extended restaurant on March 8.
