THE Fiji Agricultural Chemistry Laboratory has further enhanced its services with the revival of the product development lab.

This was revealed by laboratory’s principal research officer Ami Sharma during an interview at the 2019 National Agriculture Show at the Valelevu grounds in Nasinu yesterday.

He said the research division was the engine room for agriculture research and development with 19 staff.

Mr Sharma said the branch was not active for some time until they revived it.

“Our core business is testing of soil where we look at the soil fertility level, see what is in there and make appropriate recommendations which are sound and affordable to farmers in order to produce best results,” he said.

The new section within the chemistry laboratory is product development lab that aims to reduce post-harvest losses.

“We try to use some of the products such as root crops and especially those in season and abundance to avoid losses.”
