40 teams register for 7s

FOURTY local rugby 7s clubs have registered to be part of the inaugural Radradra 7s tournament that will kick off next week at Welagi ground on Taveuni.

The confirmed teams travelling from the mainland include Army LFC, Stripling Warriors, Tokatoka Sharks, Washington Brothers and Lami Cavaliers from the central division.

In the Western Division, former Fiji 7s rep and Flying Fijian Metuisela Talebula’s club Basque Beez, Battle Axe from Ra, Baybeez Senivaivai, former Queensland Reds winger Eto Nabuli’s team Namalomalo, Qere Young Boys from Navosa, Vatutoko Highlanders and Ratu Filise.

Two teams from Kadavu include Ulunikoro 205 Dive and Nakaiolo Brothers.

The rest of the participating teams are from the Taveuni region including a team from Laucala Island Resort and the nearby islands.

In the men’s competition the cup winner gets $8000 and the runner-up receives $4000 and in the under-20 division, the winner claims $2500 and runner-up gets $800 and the netball tournament winner walks away with $1000 and the runner-up wins $400.

Meanwhile, the tournament will be held on June 19-22, at the Welagi ground on the island of Taveuni.

The tournament is also expected to attract many big names in the sport and some Fijian players playing in France.
