AS MANY as 3000 Fijians have been recorded in the National Employment Centre (NEC) work-ready pool.
This was revealed by a representative from NEC during his presentation at the Rewa Provincial Council meeting in Dreketi yesterday.
He said a number of people were those ready to be sent for seasonal work to Australia and New Zealand.
The representative from NEC also stressed that employers in the two countries were in need of workers who possessed a full driving licence and also workers who were non-smokers and non-drinkers.
He said it was imperative to note that when officials from the ministry conducted its assessment, it looked for individuals who were fit physically and mentally.
During the discussion, a representative from Dreketi Village in Rewa urged NEC to revisit its policies in place to ensure that other rural villagers were included.
He said this was because Dreketi Village was not considered in the scheme because it was classified as an urban area.
The two-day meeting ended at Dreketi District School yesterday.
