A TOTAL of $70,000 has been allocated to develop new centralised bus stands in the Nasinu-Nakasi corridor, says Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
He said this would increase the direct bus services within these municipal areas.
“This would reduce the carbon footprint and provide convenience for those living in these areas,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.
He said those areas also included new facilities such as markets and shopping centres, which was why those bus stands were required.
“These are new municipal areas, they have new markets and new shopping centres. If you wanted to go to the other end of Nadera, there are no direct services,” he said.
“You have to go into Suva to actually catch the bus to go to the other side of Nadera.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has also pleaded with members of the public not to use newly-built bus shelters for selling their produce.
“People must respect the new bus shelters which are popping up, it is intended for buses and passengers.”
