FIJIAN Elections Office (FEO) personnel have just completed pre-polling on the island of Galoa in the district of Lekutu, Bua at midday today.
Galoa Village headman Simione Makosoi said of the 164 registered voters on the island, 110 cast their votes after voting began at 8am.
Mr Makosoi said 54 of the registered voters were away in Labasa to harvest sugarcane to raise funds for their village development project.
“The 294 villagers on the island only have one plea and that is the provision of clean drinking water, which we have been denied for a long time now,” he said.
“For most of us, it was important to vote today so that we could exercise our power to choose the next government to lead us for the next four years.”
Mr Makosoi added that majority of the villagers had no difficulties with the voting procedures, saying many of them found it user-friendly.
He said voting progressed smoothly and was completed at 12pm.
